Fantastic Friday 2010
Plan now to attend Fantastic Friday on October 22nd, from 6:00 to 10:00 p.m. This is a great chance for you to get your creative juices flowing, visit with other sisters, jazz up your home or make some economical Christmas gifts. We would love to have your friends and neighbors join us; please invite them and the sisters you visit teach. Unlike in past years, we will not be collecting money and you will be bringing your own supplies; DON'T LET THIS SCARE YOU. Many of the items you will be bringing are ones you would need to pick out your own colors or style anyway. Also, the RS will provide many of the supplies.
If you would like to do two projects, but their scheduled times overlap, don't despair! In many cases you can go for the first part of the class, learn how to do it, and then finish it later. Also, you may be able to sit in on a class and learn a new skill even if you're not ready to make a project that night. Talk to the instructors for more information.
Please bring something yummy to share.

Learn to Crochet with Ann Reynolds
Estimated cost: $10 (1 hour for class--longer to complete dishcloth project)
Calling all expert and novice crocheters. Do you crochet well enough to sit next to someone who doesn't and show her how? Or have you always wanted to learn how to crochet? We need both teachers and learners to work one-on-one with each other to make a simple dishcloth. Please indicate whether you are a teacher or a learner when you sign up.
You supply: size G crochet hook, one ball of 4 Ply Worsted Weight 100% Cotton Yarn (brand name Peaches & Creme is usually the kind Ann uses because it is easy to find. Any color is fine, but just remember the color can bleach out if you use the dishcloth for cleaning)
Easy Holiday Treats with Sarah Williams
No cost (1 hour)
Demonstration, samples, and recipes of easy holiday treats.
You supply: the taste buds
RS supplies: the treats!
House of Cards a.k.a. Card Making with Maryanne Wight
Cost is self-determined; you can go for fancy or simple (2 hours) (15 person limit)
Each person will be designing a card and briefly presenting it and explaining how to make it to the others in the group. You provide pre-cut and pre-stamped pieces for each member of the class to assemble your card. You will go home with as many different cards as there are people in the class.
You supply: tombo self adhesive or double sided tape, scissors, and any accessories you may want to include on your personal card (buttons, paper flowers, ribbon, etc.). You can provide envelopes, but they’re not necessary.
Vintage-look Earrings with Thelma Davis
Estimated cost: $2-$3 (1/2 hour)
These earrings look sophisticated but are so simple to make. We will remove the shanks off the backs of buttons and affix them to earring posts.
You supply: buttons with a hook or shank on the back (not ones with buttonholes)
RS supplies: earring posts & backs, adhesive, tools
Stamped Tile Coasters with JoLyn Thompson
Estimated cost: $2 per set of 4 coasters (16 tile limit) (1/2 hour plus longer to bake and spray)
Use rubber stamps and permanent ink to create a set of coasters. Choose from writing, music, or Asian writing backgrounds.
You supply: 4" ceramic, tumble, non-glazed tiles (JoLyn uses agora almond from Lowe's--$.34 each--pick ones without a lot of pitting), ribbon if you'd like to tie them into sets, your own stamps if preferred
RS supplies: stamps, stazon ink, pastels, adhesive felt feet
Ornament Ball Wreath with Michelle Hall
Estimated cost: $20-$25 (1 1/2 hours)
Create a festive wreath using Christmas ornament balls. Think different color schemes for different holidays.
You supply: ornament balls, white wire clothes hanger, bath towel (to keep balls from rolling off table and breaking) glue gun, pliers, ribbon, and an electrical cord if you have it. You will need approx. 80 balls. Do not use the small balls like in the sample--stick to larger and medium sized balls--an equal amount of each. A smaller wreath could be made if desired with the smaller balls for approx. $10-$15. Besides Walmart and craft stores, try the dollar store for balls.
Wood Pumpkins, Trees or Photo Blocks with Carol Anderson
Estimated cost: super cheap (2 item limit) (2 hour class--may be shorter--it depends on project). Carol will be ready at 6:00 if you want to get an early start.
Go primitive chic with these fall pumpkins, Christmas trees, or photo blocks made from sanded wood. The RS will supply the wood.
You supply: sand paper, ribbon, decorative paper if desired, paint brushes, knob and 4x6 photo for photo block
RS supplies: wood blocks, paint, mod podge
Aprons with Amy Germer
Estimated cost: $9-$25 (one apron per person) (2 hours)
We will be making a double sided apron with different fabric pieces.
You supply: Fabric, scissors, straight pins, sewing machine, 2 D-Rings (1" size), thread to match fabric, (fabric: 5 different fabric patterns. 1 yard for back, 1/2 yard for top front, 1/2 for bottom front, 1/2 yard for middle front & ruffle, 1/4 yard for straps and tie. When choosing the fabric you want to try to find one striped, one large print, one fine print, one with dots or circles, one abstract or unique design. You also want to have one dominant color and then other coordinating colors (ex: orange is the dominant color of the sample apron and blue and yellow are coordinating colors) If any one would like help picking out the fabric Amy will set a day and time at a fabric shop for those interested.)
RS supplies: We may have sewing machines if needed.
Thanksgiving Felt Banners with Kirsten Hall McNames
Estimated cost: $20 (2 hours)
This holiday banner, inspired by the Pottery Barn catalog, spells out a Thanksgiving message with whimsical letters created from different materials. Talk to Michelle Hall about getting your supplies in bulk from her. Pick up your felt and iron-on material at Michelle's house prior to Fantastic Friday and come to class with it pre-ironed.
Headbands, Flowers and Ribbon, OH MY! with Caroline Rowe
Estimated cost: $2-$6+ (2 item limit per person) (1/2 hour)
We will be taking ordinary knee-hi nylons and flowers and turning them into beautiful, stylish headbands. What will be taught: 1 - how to make a Nylon Headband; 2 - how to turn an artificial Flower into a Hairclip; 3 - how to make a Ribbon Flower; 4 - How to line alligator clips; 5 - Basic two color hair clip( ex.-brown polka dot clips). You can use artificial flowers or bring ribbon to make your own flower. All flowers will be put on clips to make them interchangeable with your headbands or used by themselves. Nylon headbands fit babies through adults, but are best for babies and younger girls. Want to make one for an older girl, or even yourself? No problem, just bring a traditional headband and we will outfit it to be interchangeable with your flowers. If you don't want flowers or headbands, basic hairclips will also be taught. What to make something similar that isn't listed here? Let me know and we'll see what we can do. There is a lot of versatility to this class so come and have fun!
You supply: Adult headband plus 3/4" ribbon (black & white will be provided) or knee-hi nylons (Walmart has a great selection of colors all for .33 a pair), flower or 5/8" or larger ribbon to create flower, 3/8" grosgrain (to match your flower) For basic hair clips, bring 2 coordinating ribbons, one 3/8" grosgrain, the other your choice. Bring the following if you have it: scissors, glue gun & sticks, lighter, and fabric tac.
RS supplies: black & white 3/4" ribbon and 3/8" grosgrain ribbon, alligator clips, rhinestones
Bring Your Own Project: If you're not interested in starting a new project or have stuff at home you want to finish up, bring it and join in with another group and visit as you work. Chris Freeman will be there if you need help with the metal stars from last year.
